Rep. Mike Levin Touts San Dieguito Clean School Bus Funding Included in Over $91 Million for Zero-Emission Buses Across California
Oceanside, CA – Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) announced that recipients throughout California, including the San Dieguito Union High School District, will receive a total of $91,230,000 in rebates through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2023 Clean School Bus Program rebate competition, which he helped pass. The rebates will help selectees purchase 380 clean school buses in 47 school districts across the state. This includes $800,000 for San Dieguito Union High School District, located in Rep. Levin’s district, to purchase four zero-emission school buses.
Through the Clean School Bus Rebate Program, the EPA selected approximately 530 school districts spanning nearly every state, Washington, D.C., and several Tribes and U.S. territories to receive nearly $900 million in funds to replace older, diesel fueled school buses that have been linked to asthma and other conditions that harm the health of students and surrounding communities. These rebates will help school districts accelerate the transition to zero-emission school buses and ensure cleaner air in and around schools and communities.

These buses will not only protect children’s health by limiting their exposure to polluted air but will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save school districts money. I am proud to have helped secure funding for this initiative and am thrilled San Dieguito Union High School District has been selected as one of the program’s pioneers.”
The EPA Clean School Bus Program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Rep. Levin supported. Rep. Levin was also a co-lead of the Clean School Bus Act, which put forward the concept of a zero-emission school bus grant program prior to the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
